I'd like to take a minute to update you on the workings of this trip for my Mama. (caringbridge: theresapinkygarrett)
We had a heap of money to raise to get the whole family there. The trip is five days total to Orlando. Two days to and from there (9 hour drive), two days at Disney Parks and one day at Sea World. We started with nothing and needed to cover everything including fuel, meals, tickets, lodging and spending money.
My brother started us off by paying for our lodging, which took a major concern off right from the start. We'll be staying about five minutes from Disney in a large home that will more than accommodate all of us.
We set an amount per person that we would each pay for sure (and possibly more) and subtracted that from the top.
Next, several close friends and family members sent along some financial donations to the cause which helped cover all of the cost of the tickets from my parents.
Since then, I have been raising most of the remainder of the funds. Donations for the trip have come through a yard sale I held, some instasales on Instagram through the donations of items from some precious friends, and some donations through organizing some fun swaps at @smalltownswaps.
I feel like I have done all I can do. I still have about $1000 left to raise and quite frankly, I am tired.
My sweet friend Mary surprised me on Tuesday this week that she is hosting a sale tonight on Instagram of some lovely handmade things. The proceeds go toward this trip for my Mama. Be still my heart.
You can shop her sale by following her on IG @mary_krause. If you can't participate tonight be sure to check out her etsy shop. She has the best shop of handmade treasures around. She and her daughter, Elly (who is 13!) make these sweet things at home and help support their family.
This last bit of funds will cover the remainder of the tickets, meals and if possible, a little spending money for the grandchildren (4 of them). We hope to have a gas card for each family to travel down and back with. We've been preparing some fun treats for them and have them little shirts to wear and some little treats for them to discover at the breakfast table in the mornings. It will be a fun time, for sure.
Thank you for your continued prayers for my Mama. She returns for another MRI on October 30th to check on the tumors in her head.
God is good, all the time!
